Themed on "Belt and Road initiative" financing and credit support, the "FCSSC (Hong Kong) Financial Forum" and the "Tsinghua PBCSF Global Financial Forum-Hong Kong Summit' were successfully held on December 13, 2017. The forums were sponsored jointly by the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, PBC School of Finance of Tsinghua University, and United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation.
The forum attracted about 300 experts, scholars and industrial representatives. Distinguished guests as Cai Esheng, Chairman of the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, and Jorge Chediek, Envoy on South-South Cooperation of Secretary General of the United Nations and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation attended the forum. The representatives widely discussed the topics as South-South cooperation, "Belt and Road initiative" financing and credit support, making joint efforts to find solutions to such issues as the financing development, financial support, and credit guarantee, in the "Belt and Road initiative".
In the opening speech, Mr. Cai Esheng pointed out that development is an urgent task for the purpose of establishing the community of human destiny. There are many challenges to the development of southern countries, including extreme poverty, unbalanced development, and unemployment. Under the circumstances, China put forward the "cooperative mode for BRIC countries", and created an open and diversified developmental network, in an effort to help more emerging market countries and developing countries to share the development opportunities, leading the implementation of financial cooperation, and contributing to the South-South cooperation and an open world economy.
Professor Liao Li, Executive Associate Dean of Tsinghua PBCSF, addressed that Hong Kong is an important node for the establishment of the "Belt and Road initiative", and has particularly favorable natural advantages in geographic position, open cooperation, and its specialization in the service industry. Moreover, financing and credit support plays an important role in the implementation of the "Belt and Road initiative" strategy. With the financing and credit support gradually in place, it will be a strong support for South-South co-operation and development, and to the implementation of major projects.
During the opening ceremony, Jorge Chediek, Envoy on South-South Cooperation of Secretary General of the United Nations and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, indicated that the "Belt and Road initiative" sets an outstanding example for South-South cooperation from the perspectives of economy, humanity and financial development. The United Nations has been devoting to establishing a more flourishing and fair world through cooperation. The current challenge is to enhance the cooperation in the financial field.
Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, Vice President of the Economic and Social Council and Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations, stressed that we are currently facing immense challenges, the "Belt and Road initiative" by Chinese President Xi Jinping is of historic significance which can serve as a supplement to the traditional development roads.
Kiatchai Sophastienphong, Vice Minister for Finance, Thailand, indicated that many countries have recognized and advanced the "Belt and Road initiative", and with the support of financing, the sustainable development of the cooperation and infrastructures of the countries along the line has been effectively promoted, bringing an all-win situation for all parties.
Wu Zhong, Vice Chairman and Director-General of the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation hosted the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was followed by the keynote speech session, hosted by Zhang Zhiping, the Executive Chairman of Finance Center for South-South Cooperation and the Plenary Session Ⅱ, sponsored by Tsinghua PBCSF, Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, Chinese Securities Association of Hong Kong and United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, and hosted by Zhao Cen, Associate Dean of Tsinghua PBCSF.
