The 6th Annual Bank of Canada-Tsinghua PBCSF-University of Toronto Conference on the Chinese Economy Successfully Held Online

On August 27 and 28, 2021, the 6th annual Bank of Canada-Tsinghua PBCSF-University of Toronto Conference on the Chinese Economy was successfully held online, theming on China's Economic Growth and Its Impact on the Global Economy. It is a joint annual event by the Bank of Canada, Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance (PBCSF) and University of Toronto Institute for Management & Innovation. 

The conference committee consists of Loren Brandt, professor at the University of Toronto, Guillaume Nolin, economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Shao Lin, senior economist from the Bank of Canada, Yang Liyan, professor at the University of Toronto, Zhang Ji, assistant professor at PBCSF, Zhou Hao, professor at PBCSF and Southern University of Science and Technology, and Zhu Xiaodong, professor at the University of Toronto. It aims to promote the exchanges between researchers and policymakers on China's macroeconomic issues and advance the discussion and sharing of academic frontier fields.

Zhou Hao made the opening speech. He shared his opinions on Bond Financing Channel of Monetary Policy: Evidence from Bank Lending.

The conference consisted of six sessions: Industrial Policy and Political Economy, Financial Market, Monetary Policy, Entrepreneurship, Labour Income, Long-term Growth and Trade Dynamics and Friction. Sixteen experts from Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Duke University, University of Toronto, University of Pennsylvania, Emory University, University of Rochester, University of California San Diego, University of California Los Angeles, Federal Reserve System and Bank of Canada made presented their latest research results and conducted in-depth discussions with scholars online.


Scholars were carrying out discussions.

Sun Guofeng, Director-General at Monetary Policy Department of the People's Bank of China, delivered a keynote speech on monetary policy and introduced China's current macroeconomic situation. Paul Beaudry, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, delivered a closing speech, looking forward to a more in-depth study of economic theory.

The Bank of Canada-Tsinghua PBCSF-University of Toronto Conference on the Chinese Economy provides an international platform for economic researchers, and promoted the reflection on academic frontier issues, building a bridge for cooperation and communication between financial regulatory agencies in China and Canada.
