On September 4, Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance Opening Ceremony 2024 was grandly held in Tsinghua University Meng Min Wei Concert Hall amidst the resounding and solemn national anthem.
Jiao Jie, Chair Professor and Dean of Tsinghua PBC School of Finance, Gu Liangfei, Chair Person of School Council, School leaderships, Full-time faculty members and heads of School Departments as well as Huang Guobo, Chief Investment Officer, CNIC Corporation Limited; Master Alumni 1983, Chen Yaru, Nicholas H. Noyes Professor of Management and Academic Dean of China Initiatives, Cornell SC Johnson College of Business attended the ceremony. Participating in the ceremony also included over 400 new students, including students majoring PhD in Finance, Master of Finance, Master of Sci-Tech and Finance, Finance MBA and Finance EMBA , and the 11th Class of the Financial Media Program.
Jiao Jie, Chair Professor and Dean, delivers an opening speech. Dean Jiao expressed “three hopes” to the students. First, he hopes students to prioritize the greater good. As students begin this journey in Tsinghua PBCSF, they are expected to recognize their responsibility to the times and history, and align their personal ambitions with the nation’s goals. Dean Jiao informed students that their responsibility extends beyond personal success and everyone is entrusted with a mission to serve the people and contribute to society. Second, “let expertise be students’ wings”. Students should keep in mind the mission on their shoulders and the great responsibility. Focusing on policy, and studying China’s issues are important to students. They are encouraged to tell China’s story, amplify its voice, and contribute to the high-quality development of finance and the nation. Third, “sharpen their swords through practice”. Dean Jiao told students to uphold Tsinghua’s motto, “Actions speak louder than words,” engaging in fieldwork and industry research to sharpen their skills, gain insights into social issues, and contribute to grassroots development while applying financial knowledge. Dean Jiao promised that Tsinghua University and Tsinghua PBCSF will do utmost to support students’ growth and success. He expressed the best wishes on students’ journey ahead!
Lei Yao, Deputy Director of the Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China, gave his speech. He pointed out that in the context of building a strong financial nation, the Research Institute will continue to deepen the collaboration across multiple levels and fields with Tsinghua PBCSF, fully implementing President Xi Jinping’s important directive, to cultivate top talent, create a distinctive training system, to promote innovation in China's financial industry. Mr. Lei shared some of the thoughts with the students. First, it is essential to set clear ideals and chart the right course to ensure steady progress in life. Second, focus on academic excellence and master the theories and tools of financial research. Third, take care of everybody’s physical health. He expressed his anticipation that students will realize their personal ideals through active participation in the construction of a financial powerhouse and the great rejuvenation of the nation.
Huang Guobo, Chief Investment Officer, CNIC Corporation Limited; Master Alumni 1983 delivered a speech. Drawing on his extensive experience in large-scale capital investment, he shared his personal views on economic cycles, the current economic and credit tightening risks in our country, as well as the restructuring of the global economic structure and industrial chains. Huang Guobo stated that the complex evolution of international geopolitical patterns and the new challenges of domestic economic development and reform and opening-up are interwoven, necessitating in-depth and forward-looking research and contemplation. He hopes that through their studies at Tsinghua PBCSF, students will develop a framework and habit of logic and critical thinking, cultivate the ability to innovate and create, shape a correct outlook on life and values, and find the starting point and direction for their careers.
