Dean Jiao Jie of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance Leads Delegation to Visit the Asian Development Bank’s Resident Mission in China

On March 16, 2026, Jiao Jie, Dean of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance (Tsinghua PBCSF), led a delegation to visit the Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in China. The delegation, including Associate Dean Zhang Xiaoyan, held in-depth discussions with Asif S. Cheema, Country Director of the ADB Resident Mission in the People’s Republic of China; Akiko Terada-Hagiwara, Principal Country Specialist responsible for economics and strategy; Yothin Jinjarak, Senior Economist; and Wang Yajing, Senior Economics Officer. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in areas such as macroeconomic research, regional economic collaboration, and talent development.

During the meeting, Asif S. Cheema outlined ADB’s key initiatives in promoting financial development and economic cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region, with a particular focus on macroeconomic research, green finance, transition finance, and financial market development. Akiko Terada-Hagiwara shared ADB’s experience in collaborating with universities and research institutions, including joint research projects and the organization of academic conferences.

Jiao Jie introduced the School’s distinctive strengths in financial policy research, think tank development, and the cultivation of high-level financial talent. He noted that Tsinghua PBCSF looks forward to establishing closer cooperation with ADB in areas such as joint research, international conferences, student internships, and training programs. Zhang Xiaoyan provided a comprehensive overview of the School and highlighted potential areas for future collaboration, including macro-financial stability, regional economic cooperation, financial inclusion, and green and climate finance.

During the discussion session, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on future directions for collaboration. They agreed that there is significant potential for cooperation in research areas such as macro-financial stability, regional economic cooperation, green finance, and financial technology. Looking ahead, the two sides may explore practical cooperation through joint research initiatives, the co-organization of high-level academic conferences and policy forums, as well as the promotion of student internships and talent development programs with international organizations.

Tsinghua PBCSF has consistently deepened its engagement with international organizations and multilateral development banks. This visit further strengthened the ties between Tsinghua PBCSF and the Asian Development Bank, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in academic research, policy dialogue, and the cultivation of globally oriented talent. Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining regular communication, actively advancing the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and jointly promoting sustainable development and innovative cooperation in the financial sector at both regional and global levels.
