He is a Master of Finance student at Tsinghua PBCSF, and gained his bachelor's degree at Peking University with honors including "Outstanding Graduate", "Academic Excellence" and "Preeminent Social Work Awards".

"The 2008 Olympic Games was unforgettable for me. As a Beijinger, I want to do something for the city.” Said Mingyi, “I feel lucky that I'm able to volunteer in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Games."

Responsibility

As an urban volunteer during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Games, Mingyi's job was to guide audiences and avoid crowding near the National Stadium (also known as the Bird Nest) during opening and closing ceremonies.

The Games were held in a closed loop to prevent all potential cross infections. Therefore, the efficient and smooth transportation became a top priority. Tens of thousands of audiences would present at the ceremonies, and hundreds of buses would be parked near the Bird Nest. Mingyi's job was to confirm the vehicle information, guide the audiences on their arrival at the Bird Nest, and provide necessary help when the audiences looked for their vehicles after the ceremonies.

In addition, Mingyi needed to communicate in English with the guests from embassies and consulates who are foreigners currently working or studying in China, and who usually do not speak fluent mandarin. "The appreciations from the guests filled us with incredible sense of pleasure." he said.

Tsinghua University also provided the volunteers with general training which covered basics of the Games, communicate skills with audiences and reporters, and CPR. "These skills are very useful not only for volunteer work, but also in our daily life," Mingyi added.

As one of the volunteers who were the first to come for work and the last to finish, Mingyi faced a daunting challenge—it was freezing cold. To their relief, the logistics support was solid. "We were given pocket heaters and hot drinks, and nice night snacks when we were back on the campus."

Inspiration

It was thanks to the generous contribution of many that the events were successfully held. "It is really not easy to hold the event while stringent COVID-19 anti-epidemic measures are in place. We would say "Fighting" and "Thank you for your work" to each other. Cast members and lovely children also gave us high-five at the end of the ceremony, which warmed us a lot during the cold night.” said Mingyi.
