Professor Tian Xuan Delivered a Keynote Speech at the 10th Asia Pacific Innovation Conference

On October 10-11, 2019, the 10th Asia Pacific Innovation Conference (APIC) was held in the School of Economics, Peking University. Tian Xuan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua PBCSF and JD Capital Chair Professor of Finance, was invited to attend and delivered a keynote speech at the event.

In the keynote speech titled “Frontiers of Enterprise Innovation Research”, Professor Tian shared his views about the most cutting-edge academic research trend in the area of “finance and technology innovation”. In the last 20 years, the publication rate of academic papers on innovation in top-notch journals of finance and accounting has been obviously on the rise. Special publications about innovation have even appeared in finance and management journals.

As for the future trend of enterprise innovation research, Tian Xuan, based on his experience in research on finance and enterprise innovation and relevant research results for more than ten years, pointed out, for the facilitation of the development of science and technology, large-scale application of scenarios, accumulation of data and research teams are required. What is more important is to adopt a capital perspective to reflect on the future of innovation, and allow capital to return to its essence and become a driving force for the development of the real economy.

At the conference, Tian Xuan also shared some of his research results about capital and innovation in recent years. Innovation is a key engine for the development of the national economy. Whereas frontier academic research in pursuit of social benefits can discover problems facing enterprise innovation, look into the actual effect of relevant policies, and put forward proposals on policy optimization so as to promote enterprise innovation and economic development.

The Asia Pacific Innovation Network, as the sponsor of the event, was established in January 2010 to bring together experts and scholars in the Asia Pacific region interested in the legal, managerial and economic aspects of innovation. It plans to conduct regular workshops, conferences and events in the region focusing on research in innovation. The themes and topics of which cover 25 areas, including innovation and industry, innovation-related IPR protection, innovation in global value chains, national innovation systems, IPR-driven innovation, standards related to alternative energy and other new technologies, as well as challenges to IPR, etc.

The 10th APIC arranged for 7 keynote speeches and 15 parallel sessions. Around 100 top-rate experts and scholars at home and from abroad conducted discussions about 15 topics, including “Innovation and Knowledge Spillover”, “IPR Policy and Innovation”, “Firm Strategy and Innovation” , “Innovation and Patenting in China”, and etc.
