Ma Jun Won the 2019 China Soft Science Prize

On May 30, the 2019 CDI Think-tank Forum and the awarding ceremony of the 7th China Soft Science Prize was held in Shenzhen. Ma Jun, Director of the Center for Finance and Development, Tsinghua National Institute of Financial Research (NIFR), Chairman of the Green Finance Committee, China Society for Finance and Banking and Member of the Monetary Policy Committee, People’s Bank of China, won the 2019 China Soft Science Prize.

Ma Jun is the chief editor of the book Establishing China’s Green Financial System. The book elaborated on the necessity and feasibility of establishing China’s green financial system, analyzed the relevant policy framework and provided 14 recommendations and implementation roadmap. The key argument of the book is, to better cope with the severe environmental challenges, China must motivate billions of social capital to green industries including environmental protection, energy saving, clean energy development and green transportation industry, where a complete green financial system has to be established to make the achievement. The main suggestions in the book were adopted by a number of high-level policy guidance including the Integrated Reform Plan for Promoting Ecological Progress (2015) by the Chinese central government and the state council, and Guidelines for Establishing the Green Financial System (2016) jointly by 7 state-level ministries.

China Soft Science Prize is a nation-wide award set by Shenzhen Soft Science Development Foundation. It aims to create an authoritative, fair and exemplary platform which awards outstanding soft science research achievements bi-annually. The winners of this year include Xu Xianming, vice chairman of Supervision and Justice Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress and Lu Ming, Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
