School Welcomes 2016 Freshmen

On September 21, Tsinghua PBCSF held a joint opening ceremony at Tsinghua Auditorium, marking the start of its new academic year. The School welcomed over 500 new students from Ph.D. in Finance, Master of Finance, Finance MBA, Finance EMBA, Global Finance GFD, Global Entrepreneur Leadership, and Finance Media Fellowship programs. The event was joined by WU Xiaoling, School Chairwoman and Dean, ZHOU Yanli, Former Vice Chairman of China Insurance Regulatory Commission, LIU Xiangyun, Deputy Inspector of the Research Bureau of the People’s Bank of China and all faculty and staff. School’s Senior Associate Dean GU Liangfei hosted the ceremony.


Dean WU Xiaoling addressed the ceremony. She pointed out that, we are entering a challenging new era. Under the new financial situation, financial practitioners should adhere to their ethics and moral consciousness, and strive to provide good financial services. While achieving economic development, we should also use the environment-friendly finance to reduce the damage to the earth and the inclusive finance to narrow down wealth growth gap. Referring to financial technology, Wu said that only using the advanced technology to meet people’s various needs, can an enterprise seize the initiative in the Financial Disintermediation and re-gain a market position.


Capitalizing on Tsinghua University’s teaching and research resources, the Co-supervised Ph.D Program by Tsinghua PBCSF and the Research Institute of Finance and Banking at the People’s Bank of China provides a broader platform for students’ further development, LIU Xiangyun said. She also expressed her expectation of the students that they could set higher goals, broaden their outlook and get to know more of the world. 


Executive Associate Dean LIAO Li made an overall introduction to about PBCSF, stating that the mission of the School is to promote excellence in the finance industry and financial regulation through top-notch education and cutting-edge research.


In his speech, ZHOU Yanli believes that financial practitioners ought to explore more about how finance can contribute to wealth distribution, serve the market operation and improve economic efficiency. He hoped the students should apply strict self-discipline and moral ethic and make more progress through self-challenge. 


The event concluded with the launch ceremony of five newly established research centers under the Tsinghua University National Institute of Financial Research — Center for Global Merger Acquisition and Restructuring, Finance and Development Research Center, XIN Real Estate FinTech Research Center, Phoenix Health Finance Research Center and Listed Company Research Center.
