School Hosts Sumimoto Mitsui Banking Corporation (China) Scholarship Awarding Ceremony

On Nov. 17th, the Sumimoto Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) (China) Scholarship Awarding Ceremony was held at Tsinghua PBC School of Finance. Assistant Dean Yuan Yuan hosted the event.


Associate Dean Kang Yitong addressed the ceremony and welcomed all the guests from the Bank. The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two sides in 2015, as Kang said, will actively carry forward mutual cooperation and exchanges covering greater areas and in more diversified forms. On behalf of the School, he expressed thanks to SMBC (China) for the donation.



Hisanori Kokuga, Chairman of the Board of SMBC (China), made his speech in Chinese, stating that the Bank hopes to help and encourage more students with exceptional academic performance and personal qualities to become future financial talents and fulfill their dreams through establishing the Scholarship. He then awarded the Scholarship certificates to five students.


Following the ceremony, Yoshimasa Moriguchi, General Manager of Financial Research Department of SMBC, delivered a themed lecture on Japan’s negative interest rate policy, making analysis on the historical evolution of Japan’s monetary policies and the consequent influences since the 1990s. At the end of his speech, he shared his views with the audience on issues of potential influences of American president election on Japan, industry revitalization in Japan, trend of Japanese yen, etc.

Tsinghua PBCSF has invited 10 experts from SMBC (China) to give academic lectures elaborating the development of Japan’s economics and finance since 2001.
