On September 18, Tsinghua PBCSF began its new academic year with a joint opening ceremony held at Mong Man-wai Concert Hall, Tsinghua University. This event was to welcome all the students newly-enrolled in Ph.D in Finance, Master of Finance, Finance EMBA, Global Finance GFD and Finance Media Fellowship programs. Senior Associate Dean Liangfei Gu hosted the ceremony.

Dean Xiaoling Wu addressed the freshmen, hoping that they, as new members of Tsinghua PBCSF, could be open-minded and practical enough to make great academic achievements, be wise and creative enough to push forward innovation and reform, and be hard working and indomitable enough to contribute to the whole society.

Yuqi Sun, Deputy Director of the Financial Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China, encouraged the students to make good use of the quality programs and actively participate in practice.

Executive Associate Dean Li Liao familiarized the students with the School by an overall introduction, stating that the mission of the School is to promote excellence in the finance industry and financial regulation through top-notch education and cutting-edge research.

Representatives of new postgraduate students and PhD candidates shared their impression of the School as a warm family and the palace of knowledge, and expressed their longing for the new life at PBCSF, while freshmen from the industry showed their determination to further their study back at school and take good advantage of the resources offered by the School.

The ceremony concluded with Shiyu Liu’s speech, who is the Chairman of the Agricultural Bank of China and an adjunct professor at Tsinghua PBCSF. He expressed his expectation on the freshmen that they could carry forward the School spirit of “Hardworking, Pioneering, Cooperative and Dedicated”, follow Tsinghua’s motto of “Self- discipline and Social Commitment”, and contribute to promoting China’s financial reform and opening up and maintaining the stability of China’s financial system.
