On September 4, the Opening Ceremony for the freshmen of 2014 was held in the Multi-function Hall of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance. The event was attended by all freshmen, alumni representatives, as well as school leaders.

Tsinghua PBCSF Chairwoman and Dean, Xiaoling Wu, addressed the freshmen, saying the nation is undergoing a major transition, and PBCSF students should carry on the fine traditions of working hard and contributing to solving practical issues in Chinese society.

School Alumnus Lei Lu, now Director General of the Research Bureau of the People’s Bank of China, pointed out that the modern financial markets present higher requirements for financial professionals. The good old days when financial institutions made profits based on uniform business practices are gone. He expressed his hope that students clarify their career goals in order to successfully adapt to real world business.

The ceremony marks the start of the orientation for 139 freshmen, including 104 Master’s students and 35 Ph.D. students.
