Abstract: 

Although Guangzhou is a national leader in the development of sports, the insufficient supply of sport space is putting a limit on the sport for all. The research investigates the demand and the supply of sport space across a range of sports. Through comparison, the author finds out that Guangzhou is evidently in short of sport space for badmintion, pingpong and tennis. While the current sport space such as basketball court, football court, swimming pool and gym room meets the demand on paper, the actual supply has been curtailed due to closure or poor management. 

To meet the shortfall, the government, companies and communities can boost supply by providing new facilities and improving old ones, based on the particularities of various type of sport space. The research moves on to study four typical types of sport space in Guangzhou: large sports venue, community sport space, school sport space and commercial sport space. By consulting literature and analyzing representative cases, the root causes and potential solutions of the sport space deficiency in Guangzhou are demonstrated.
